CHARLESTON — More than 120 drivers were stopped by law enforcement in the work zone on Interstate 64 between 29th Street and the Huntington Mall on Wednesday.
Targeted vehicles exceeded the 55 mph speed limit or otherwise disobeyed traffic laws. One vehicle traveling through the work zone was clocked at 81 mph, according to the DOT.
West Virginia State Police, the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and police departments from Huntington, Barboursville and Milton took part in the targeted speed enforcement operation Wednesday morning.
The speed enforcement operation continued Thursday, with more than 100 vehicles stopped by 4 p.m.
In 2022, there were 800 crashes in West Virginia work zones, killing eight people and injuring 276.
