James Boggs

IRONTON - A Greenup County, Kentucky, man was sentenced last week in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court to five years in prison and was named a Tier 3 sexual offender for the rest of his life.

James R. Boggs, 39, of the 500 block of Fulton Ave., Greenup, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery against a 16-year-old male victim, said Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson.

Boggs, a gymnastics and cheer coach at Gem City All-Stars in Ironton, entered the guilty pleas before Judge Christen Finley, according to Anderson.

He was indicted last year on 26 counts of sexual battery. Twenty-four of those charges were dismissed Monday as part of a plea agreement.

Boggs faces similar charges in Greenup County against the same victim, Anderson said.

The trial against Boggs was scheduled to begin Monday.

As a Tier 3 sexual offender, Boggs will be required to report his address to authorities for the rest of his life once he's released from prison, Anderson said.
