IRONTON - A Lawrence County grand jury returned more than 30 indictments this week, including six sealed drug indictments, according to Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson.

Spanish M. Smith, 28, of Private Drive 153, Proctorville, Ohio, jailed earlier this year on a 16-count drug indictment, faces new charges of felonious assault and assault against a deputy jailer last week. A co-defendant in the drug case, Shawnelle E. Wilson, 25, of Private Drive 302, South Point, Ohio, also was indicted this week on charges of felonious assault and assault.

In an unrelated case, James A. Grether, 46, of Chestnut Street, Ironton, was indicted on three counts of felonious assault and single counts of abduction, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and theft. Grether is charged with stealing a woman's car with her inside and then hitting three other vehicles before being captured by authorities, Anderson said.

In other cases:

  • Cory Anthony Smith, 19, of the 600 block of South 7th Street, Ironton, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence, felony vandalism and escape.
  • James Friedman Jr., 20, of the 300 block of Perry Street, Proctorville, was indicted on charges of tampering with evidence, theft and importuning.
  • Jalen Thomas Goodwin, 21, of the 500 block of Adams Avenue, Huntington, was indicted on a charge of possession of drugs.
  • Lawrence D. McCoy, 30, of County Road 7, Ironton, was indicted on charges of intimidation, falsification and resisting arrest.
  • Justin L. Chmielewski, 31, of Mose Asbury Road, Wayne, was indicted on charges of burglary and falsification.
  • Alvin D. Lewis, 47, of Township Road 1129, Chesapeake, Ohio, was indicted on a felony charge of domestic violence.
  • Tyquelle K. McFarling, 20, of County Road 52, Ironton, was indicted on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine.
  • Nathan T. Murphy, 38, of the 600 block of 10th Street, Huntington, was indicted on a charge of failure to appear.
  • Brandon T. Carter, 30, of the 900 block of Adams Street, Ironton, was indicted on a charge of failure to appear.
  • Tiffany A. Hatfield, also known as Tiffany A. Wagoner, 35, of Township Road 1148, Proctorville, was indicted on a charge of failure to appear.
  • Stephen Lee Burton, 30, of Paden City, West Virginia, was indicted on a charge of failure to appear.
  • Clarence J. Johnson, 44, of Private Drive 1044, Proctorville, was indicted on a charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
  • Jie K. Highley, 43, of the 400 block of Marcia Street, Ashland, was indicted on charges of possession of heroin and aggravated possession of meth.
  • Bessie J. Daniels, 34, of Pike Street, Coal Grove, Ohio, was indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of meth.
  • Andy A. Baise, 42, of County Road 124, Chesapeake, was indicted on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Kate M. Newman, 38, of the 1500 block of 4th Avenue, Huntington, was indicted on a charge of possession of heroin.
  • Joshua Ellis Patholsky, 45, of the 2600 block of 12th Street, Ironton, was indicted on a charge of possession of heroin.
  • Rhonda S. Davis, 44, of Main Street, Grayson, Kentucky, was indicted on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drug abuse instruments.
  • Joshua A. Gee, 20, of the 1500 block of South 3rd Street, Ironton, was indicted on a charge of possession of heroin.
  • Harley A. Perkins, 27, of Lane Street, Barboursville, was indicted on a charge of possession of heroin.
  • David W. Barker, 42, of Private Drive 83, Proctorville, was indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of meth.
  • Angela Adkins, 27, of Camp Branch Road, Huntington, was indicted on a charge of possession of heroin.
  • Christopher A. Craft, 46, of Private Drive 7882, Chesapeake, was indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of meth.

An indictment is a formal charge made against a person by a grand jury. It does not establish guilt or innocence.
