For the second time in three years, the St. Albans Red Dragons baseball team is the state champion. The 5-0 win in the title game over Hurricane capped off a 34-4 season in which they proved to be the class of the state.
The Red Dragons proved to be a nut that defending champions, Hurricane, simply couldn't crack this season as all three matchups went in favor of St. Albans.
St. Albans also experienced revenge from last season's defeat to Wheeling Park in this year's 4-1 semifinals victory to once again meet Hurricane in the title game as they did in 2017.
Head coach Rick Whitman commented that his kids were determined to get back to the champions podium this year after suffering defeat in the semi-finals last season.
"This team has been a special group of student athletes. They have done everything asked of them on and off the field. No one has worked harder than them, and it's truly a joy to see that rewarded. I couldn't be more proud of them."
Once again, congratulations to coach Whitman and St. Albans on another incredible, state title winning season from all of us here at Teays Physical Therapy Center.
