HAZARD, Ky. (AP) — A former Perry County official has pleaded guilty to mailing a false document to cover a vote-buying scheme.
A plea agreement in the case said former Circuit Clerk Chester Jones admitted he mailed a false campaign-spending report to Frankfort. The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Jones pleaded guilty Thursday.
Former Perry County Judge-Executive Sherman Neace pleaded guilty earlier. Both men face a sentence of up to 20 years.
The case stemmed from $7,500 sent from the state Democratic Party to the local party to use to help improve voter turnout. The men used the money instead to buy votes in 2008 when Jones was running for school board and Neace for magistrate.
