Sen. Joe Manchin did not hesitate when he saw the EPA proposal. “Totally insane,” was his comment. What is totally insane is the $500,000 which he annually receives from his coal investments. The average West Virginian earns $28,700. The senator can continue to hold out false hope to the coal industry, but there is no denying the following report by Lazard, the financial advisory firm. Their report reveals solar at 3.7 cents per kilowatt; wind at 4.1; natural gas at 5.6 and coal at 10.9. Coal is dead last. Massachustts closed its last coal plant in 2017; New York in 2020. The senator should spend more effort attempting to land some electric vehicle plants to West Virginia like Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina.
