Ryan Fischer/The Herald-Dispatch U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., got people talking last week when he did not dispute rumors that he is considering another run for governor. He also criticized Gov. Jim Justice, suggesting he is a part-time governor who acts through a surrogate.

Sen. Joe Manchin was elected twice to be governor of West Virginia. He resigned in his second term after successfully running for the U.S. Senate. Last week rumors circulated that Manchin might run for governor again in 2020. Those rumors came as Manchin criticized Gov. Jim Justice for being a part-time governor.

"The state of West Virginia deserves and needs a full-time governor," Manchin said. He also suggested that Bray Cary, an adviser to Justice, was acting as the governor's surrogate.

Online readers of The Herald-Dispatch reacted to Manchin's comment. Some agreed with him, while many disagreed.

Lila Carroll Ramkey: "Manchin was the opportunist who walked off the job as governor to take Byrd's senate seat. So one is said to be part-time and one just flat out quit."

Stephen McElroy: "Anyone know the last time Joe spoke truthfully? If Manchin becomes governor again, who will replace him as senator? Ojeda, Puccio, Kendra? The WV Democratic Party is looking so far left that the Socialist Party is looking right wing."

n n n

Leonard Fuller: "We need a U.S. Senator that will be bipartisan instead of backing 100 percent of the liberal agenda."

n n n

Kelli Edwards-Webb: "Kind of like we need a full-time senator who doesn't bow to special interests and sell out WV for political gain, right, Joe?"

n n n

William Lockhart: "You mean the kind that helps his daughter screw people who need EpiPens?"

n n n

Shannon Smith: "From being in the red to being in the black, I'll take part time."

n n n

Shirley Layne: "WV needs a governor that doesn't run pretending to be a Democrat to win then switching parties after he won. He lost my respect after that."

n n n

Jeremy McCormick: "Kinda like Ojeda."

n n n

John Carrico: "Pot calling the kettle black!"

n n n

Patrick Fluty: "I have been very disappointed in Justice. I thought that he would be more involved in agriculture since he owns huge farms."

n n n

Harry Sowards: "I agree!"

n n n

Josiah Spriegel: "I thought Ojeda would have stayed in the legislature and worked on a portfolio for a run at governor, but apparently they feel a presidential run is a better investment of money, time and political capital."

n n n

Frances Tolley: "He's actually right."

n n n

Gina Starling Gunn: "How about one that doesn't switch sides midstream?"

n n n

Gabriel Trimble: "West Virginia needs full-time jobs!"

n n n

Yoly Molina: "I'll volunteer."

n n n

Brandon Ray Kirk: "We needed Jenkins for a senator."

n n n

John P Lego: "Yeah, not a crook."

n n n

George Chambers: "West Virginia needs you to represent us better in the Senate instead of coming back home and attacking other people. If our governor hadn't switched parties, you would never have said such a thing about him "

n n n

Joshua Bowman: "WV needs a full-time senator also. Anyone know where we can find one that isn't corrupt?"
