Free college would help improve US

On June 26 you published an editorial by the Boston Herald saying that free college would cost the American taxpayer, indicating that it was a bad idea. The United States spends almost $700 billion per year on the military. The cost of educating college students for free would run about $21 billion for in-state schools based on current college enrollment and costs. In 1948 Costa Rica abolished its military and used the entire military budget for education. I am not suggesting that we spend our entire military budget on education, but just a portion of that budget could pay for free college and improve the lives of countless American young people.
