Route 60 is bumper to bumper but moving steadily as the post- work commuters make their way home. At the corner of U.S. 60 and Davis Creek Road, people are stopping for flowers and fresh vegetables at Floyd's Fruits and Flowers.
Business is brisk this day, and has been all season so far.
"It's been great," Ashley Napier said. "The weather was unpredictable and it set us back a couple of weeks.
"Now we're starting to get into the homegrown produce, which is starting to come in and everybody's planting their garden and stuff like that. So all the local stuff that we usually carry is just now really starting to get a few here and there."
Ashley is the daughter of owner Floyd Napier.
"One day she's going to be (the owner)," Floyd says as he relaxes in a swing trying to keep the stifling afternoon heat at bay. "She's doing a great job."
A look around Floyd's fills the senses with colors and smells. All fresh and all fantastic.
"Mothers Day was a pretty big day for the flowers," Ashley said. "It was a good weekend. I wish it were a little warmer instead of a little bit brisk, rainy, but we definitely are thankful to have the customers come in."
Now that the summer heat has set in, it's time for those summer staple vegetables.
"We still have all the beautiful things that we had for Mother's Day. We have what we usually always carry. We call it 'What Mama Made,' which is the green beans and potatoes," Ashley said.
Ashley said when people come to the counter with the green beans and potatoes, they always mention they're making 'what Mama made' - and the name has stuck.
On this day, homegrown strawberries are flying off the shelves and they expect West Virginia peaches to arrive soon.
Floyd's offers plenty of canned goodies, from pickled corn and peppers to honey and molasses.
"People want local honey to help their allergies," Ashley said. "We have honey from 20 or 30 miles away from here. It's supposed to help you with allergies, so we try to make sure we keep adding them."
A big seller is Ghostly Gourmet, a local company that does canned pickles and peppers.
"His pickles have been a huge seller for us," Ashley said. "He likes to make them hot. The Carolina Reaper pickle has been very popular."
The pepper plants have been popular, as well.
"One of the plants that was really requested this year was the Carolina Reaper," Ashley said. "We also have the Trinidad Scorpion. Anything hot."
The peppers aren't so much Ashley's cup of tea.
"I'll try it just to give someone a scale of how hot I think it is."
Floyd's has been in business since 1978.
When asked about the most popular seller, Floyd is quick to answer.
"Peaches!" he exclaims. "Tree-ripened peaches. Don't buy them from the supermarket - you won't get a good peach. Buy them from Floyd's and you'll get a good peach."
A customer approaches Ashley with a question.
"What's your best tomato?"
Ashley doesn't hesitate.
"I really like the heirloom tomatoes back there, the Cherokee Purples, but the big homegrown ones here are good, too," Ashley says as she escorts the customer to the tomatoes.
