For Jennifer and Tim Burns, opening Pooch's Palace was a dream come true.

Their doggy daycare, located on Mount Vernon Road in Hurricane, offers boarding and grooming for the canines of Putnam and surrounding counties. The pair are extremely active in every facet of the business, especially when it comes to caring for their guests.

Each day, the Burns start out by serving breakfast to the dogs and taking them outside to play in the gated play area. Having both indoor and outdoor play areas allows the dogs to enjoy the weather if they choose, Jennifer said.

In fact, there's plenty for the critters to do. From bone-shaped pools to a spa bath inside, the experience is nothing short of a royal treatment.

"Our love for furry friends started early," Jennifer Burns said. "Our love grew stronger as we fostered and rescued dogs throughout the years. Many of our own dogs have been rescued and turned into loving members of our family."

The duo have made an impression in the boarding community since they opened their doors; many of their most frequent guests come from other counties and neighboring areas.

"Since opening, we've had people travel from all over the state as well as Kentucky and Ohio," Burns said. "It's very humbling knowing someone would travel great distance to be part of our home away from home."

With six dogs of their own, the Burns take boarding, care and grooming seriously when it comes to the shop, and they consider each guest to be a new member of their own family.

"Our mission is to provide the area with clean, friendly and professional pet environment," Burns said.

Pooch's Palace is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon.
