MASON, W.Va. — Wahama outscored the Huntington St. Joe 18-9 in the second period to overcome an early deficit and win 67-47 in boys high school basketball in Mason, West Virginia.

WAYNE — In a three-minute stretch, the Huntington St. Joe girls basketball team turned a tie game into a double-digit lead and that was enough to defeat the Wayne Pioneers on Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the Class AAA Region 4, Section 2 tournament.

Cabell Midland girls supplanted the Highlanders atop Class AAAA in the AP girls basketball poll after winning the Mountain State Athletic Conference championship Saturday, during which HHS, now ranked second, won the consolation game.

Russell's girls basketball team fell behind early and then had key missed opportunities during a comeback attempt as they fell 64-53 to Henderson County in the Kentucky Girls Sweet 16 quarterfinals at Rupp Arena in Lexington on Friday night.

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — Samantha Wells scored 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead top-seeded Grace Christian to a 56-31 victory over No. 8 seed Teays Valley Christian in girls high school basketball in the quarterfinals of the West Virginia Christian Athletic Tournament.

KJ Taylor had quite the impact on his football teammates at Capital High School. He left a lasting impression on most, with one of them calling Taylor “the perfect teammate.’’

Russell senior Aubrey Hill had 22 points and nine rebounds while Shaelyn Steele led an impressive defensive charge as the Devils topped Dixie Heights, 58-44, in the first round of the Kentucky Girls Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena on Thursday.

HUNTINGTON — Four seniors on Huntington High School’s girls basketball team who began their careers as part of a rebuild from the graduation of a state championship squad were recognized at Lucas-Archer Gym on Saturday before they helped the Highlanders roll to a 78-56 win over Parkersburg.

Ashland struggled to hit shots at the end of each half, which allowed Highlands to make big runs in the Bluebirds' 66-50 win over the Tomcats in the Kentucky Sweet 16 semifinals at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday.
