HUNTINGTON — More than 12,000 fans attended Marshall University’s season-opening game against Eastern Kentucky University on Sept. 5, and athletic department administrators are preparing for an even larger crowd when the Herd hosts the 23rd-ranked Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday.
Marshall and Appalachian State meet at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in a game that puts both programs in the national spotlight with a CBS broadcast.

On Wednesday evening, the NCAA Division I Council announced that the start of college basketball season would be pushed back from Nov. 10 to Nov. 25 with the maximum number of games for teams going from 31 to 27.
