HUNTINGTON - Summer is in full swing and that means the place to be is Beech Fork State Park, located at 5601 Long Branch Road, Barboursville, just 10 miles south of Huntington and Barboursville.

The pool is now open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday, with the exception of holidays. Admission is $5 for those 11 years and younger; $6 for those 12 and older and $5.50 for seniors (65 and older). The pool is also available for rent after hours, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for parties.

There's also hiking and mountain biking trails nearby (including the newly renovated Lost Trail and Overlook Trail) as well as basketball courts and many other recreational opportunities, including summertime ranger programs. Beech Fork is the state's largest park campground, with RV and tent sites, and cabin rentals. New this year is disc golf course. The park has also stand-up paddleboards, fishing and pedal boats, canoes, kayaks and rowboats for rent. Call 304-528-5794 for more information about Beech Fork.

Here's a look at the activities planned for this week as part of the Park's Nature and Recreation Program.

Wednesday, June 12

n Noon to 8 p.m. - Volley Ball and Bocce Ball - Join your fellow camper's in a games of volley ball and bocce ball located at the boat dock. Bring your team and your best competitive attitude. Winners will have bragging rights and a free paddle boat rental at the camp boat dock. Games will begin every other hour starting at 12 and ending at 8 p.m.

Thursday, June 13

n 6 p.m. - Paddle Boat Races - Come down the boat dock area to take part in some fun races

Friday, June 14

n 10 a.m. - Hiking Friday. Go on an afternoon hike on one of the parks many trails. Enjoy sight-seeing, trees, birds, and other great sights. Join your naturalist at the fire circle to venture to the overlook trail.

n 3 p.m. - Coloring the Park - Join your naturalist in an afternoon full of coloring. Show your best artistic skills, to show the campground as they enter the camp headquarters! Meet at the activities room at 3 and have so much fun!

n 4 p.m. - Disc Golf 101 - Come join your naturalist in a game of disc golf. Learn the goals and rules for an afternoon full of fun and new skills. Meet behind the Parks headquarters where there is a 9-hole disc golf course.

Saturday, June 15

n 2 p.m. - "Selfie" Scavengers - Go on a scavenger hunt and take a selfie with each object and be the first back to the headquarters to meet the naturalist. To begin meet at the activities room in the park's headquarters.

n 4 p.m. - Tie Dye T-shirts - Meet the Naturalist behind the headquarters building at to tie dye your shirt or even a last minute Father's Day gift. You'll need to purchase your shirt in the Camper's Corner Store before the activity.

n 7:30 p.m. - Night Hike - Go on an evening hike with your park naturalist, on the long branch trail. Take an adventure to learn the sounds of the frogs, and other night critters. Meet out from of the park headquarters building

Sunday, June 16

n 9 a.m. - Going Fishing with Dad on Father's Day - Grab your Dad and fishing tackle and come to the Boat Dock for a little impromptu fishing derby prior to heading home. Catch your very first fish?? Get a certificate signed by the park naturalist to remember it for forever.

n 11 a.m. - Father's Day Craft - Bring your best artistic abilities to the activity room in the park's headquarters to create a gift for your dad. All ages are welcome.
