HUNTINGTON - Friends and families across the state enjoyed a weekend at the lake exploring their angler potential as part of the state's free fishing weekend.

As part of National Fishing and Boating Week, West Virginia joined all states in offering free fishing days. The free fishing event offered a low-risk introductory to the sport for West Virginians without having to purchase a fishing license.

Experienced anglers were encouraged to bring their friends for a day of fishing, and several lakes, like East Lynn Lake, held kids fishing tournaments to help encourage a love for the sport
